 Konnichiwa.

After 4 years of learning, searching, trying, testing and crashing,
a new program is available freely on the net: Bren10.

Bren10 is a DTP (Desktop Publishing Program) that can handle Japanese
Text. It also has dictionary and Kanji Lookup features.
It works on Windows 95 & 98, and probably also on Windows NT.
You don't have to use the Japanese version of Windows, your
 usual version is OK.

A quite unique feature for freeware, non-japanese software is
that it uses Japanese TrueType fonts to display Japanese text.

This is the first public release of Bren10, version
 -273.15 Betabeta 3.
There will be (of course, what did you expect ?) plenty of bugs.
In fact, until Release 1.0, you can consider Bren10 as a huge bug.
The program will crash, I'm sure, but you already can do some
interesting stuff (If you have to crash your computer anyway, why
wouldn't you do it with my program ? ^_^; ).
Bren10 could be interesting for you if:
  - you want an easy way to search for Kanjis/Japanese words
  - you want to print images with some (but not too much) text
next to or on the image.

TO RUN BREN10 WITH ALL ITS FEATURES ENABLED, you have to:
 ---------------------------------------------------------
 1) Unzip the "B10-001.ZIP" file.

 2) Read the "BREN10.TXT" file, to be sure
     - you really want to execute that program !
     - you've read some very important information !
     - you are aware of the different copyrights !
The following points give a general idea of what you need to
run the program. This list doesn't replace the "BREN10.TXT" file !

 3) Install correctly a Japanese TrueType Font
    (_with_ the japanese codepage file)
!! MsMincho & MsGothic will probably not display the
kanjis of JIS X 0212-1990. If you posess the Microsoft Office 97
professional CD, try to install the simplified Chinese font
MsSong.ttf too. (see the bren10.txt file for more info).

 4) Run "JUNBICHI.EXE" on your copy of "KANJIDIC" & "KANJD212"
to build "KLOOKUP.IDX" (used in Kanji Lookups)

 5) Specify the correct locations of:
    - your dictionary files ("EDICT"-like dictionaries with their
      corresponding "EDICT.JDX"-files)
    - b10jap.akf, klookup.idx, kanjidic and kanjd212
You can do this by editing the bren10.ini file, or in the Options-
    File Locations Menu.
(!! Bren10 always adds the "Main Directory"-string to the filename !!)

 6) Execute the "BREN10.EXE" file (at your own risk of course)

 **********************************************
Files you won't find in the "B10-001.ZIP" file:
  - "KANJIDIC" & "KANJD212"
  - a Japanese TrueType Font (& the codepage)
  - a dictionary file and its index.
 **********************************************
You will have to download these files from one of the Monash FTP-sites.

I hope you will enjoy this program,
